Hi

Driving home tonight we got a very wierd vibrating/rubbing noise, you can feel it coming through the pedals, and hear it. It seems to happen between 40 and 50 when I drive on most road surfaces, but not all. It seems that the if the road surface is slightly rough, it gets louder.

It didn't seem to be the brakes, as it didn't change when using them. Also when I took it out of gear the sound was exactly the same, so I presume it isn't engine related.

I had a look underneath, but I couldn't find anything loose.

Has anyone had anything like this, or know of anything that could be causing it.

I'm sure it'll be a dealer job, just wondered if anyone had any ideas before I called them

The only problem I've got is that I'm supposed to be driving upto Blackpool from Peterborough on Friday, and I'm worried something might fall off, or cause a major problem.

MMmm strange one

I presume you have checked that the wheel nuts are tight etc:?:

could be a shock absorber or something, loose trim

Maybe one of the balance weights has come off one of the front wheels?

Check and see if there is a clean mark where a weight used to be.

If not that then maybe a brake caliper sticking?

The fact it's vibrating through the pedals indicates it might be wheel related.

Definately a dealer job.

Is this more evident in 6th gear by any chance?

My dealer is consulting LR techical support and is due to report back tomorrow. I'll keep and eye on your post.

Just thought I'd update you all.

I toke it to Marshalls in P'Boro yesterday lunch time, and they fitted it straight in, that same afternoon, how impressed was I.

They gave me a call a couple of hours later to say that they'd found that there was an excessive build up of brake dust in the rear calipers. They cleaned them and adjusted them (wonder if that's why it built up, if the weren't doing much). Seems to have done the job, and it has stopped making the funny noises.

So what I thought was going to be a big issue and possibly be a pain for them to find turned out to be brake dust, how stupid did I feel.

Chris B, I couldn't feel it through the seat, or gear lever, it was more the pedals and steering wheels. Sorry I couldn't be of any help. I presume that your issue will be a transmission issue, if you feel it through the seat and gear lever, I wonder if it could be something like a slightly inbalanced prop shaft, and that's why it happens in sixth (I presume by sixth you mean over 60ish mph)?
